Clinical Waste Removal

One-off clinical waste collections

Single clinical waste collections for stockpiled sharps, clinic closures, refits, events or backlogs, cleared with full paperwork. Typical UK costs.

In short: A one-off clinical waste collection clears sharps, bags, medicines or specialist waste in a single visit, without a regular contract. It suits clinic closures and refits, stockpiled sharps, events, new businesses not yet on contract and backlogs left by a previous contractor. A one-off sharps collection typically costs around £40 to £100 in the UK, and a mixed bag and sharps collection around £80 to £150.

One-off collections are often needed at awkward moments. A clinic is closing or moving and has a store room of old containers and medicines. A contractor has stopped turning up and bins are overflowing. A studio has filled sharps containers over months and never booked a collection. A vaccination clinic, sports event or festival first aid post has produced waste over a weekend. In each case the waste still needs a registered carrier and the right paperwork.

To price a one-off accurately, we need to know what is there: how many sharps containers and what lid colours, how many bags and which colour, whether there are medicines or chemicals, and whether anything is unlabelled or damaged. Photos help. Damaged, overfilled or unlabelled containers may need repacking before they can be collected, which takes extra time, so it is better to flag them up front.

One-off clinical waste collections: FAQs

Can you collect clinical waste without a contract?

Yes. One-off collections are common for small producers, closures and backlogs. You still receive the same paperwork as on a contract, so your Duty of Care is covered. If you produce clinical waste regularly, a scheduled service is usually better value and keeps storage under control.

What if my containers are damaged or not labelled?

Tell us before the visit. Damaged, overfilled or unlabelled containers may not be accepted at the treatment facility as they are, so they may need repacking into new containers, which can affect the price. Never try to empty or press down an overfilled sharps container.

How quickly can a one-off collection be arranged?

It depends on location and the waste involved. Routine sharps and bag collections can often be arranged within days, while specialist or chemical waste may take longer because it needs assessment before it can be booked into a treatment facility.

A landlord has found clinical waste in an empty unit. Who is responsible?

The business that produced the waste is responsible for it under the Duty of Care. If they cannot be found, the landlord or occupier in control of the premises will usually need to arrange removal. Do not move it into general waste. Keep it secure, record what is there, and arrange a collection with proper paperwork.
